Product is very responsive to traffic and easy to use.

Have had the camera for five months and it has more features than we thought even though we read reviews before making the purchase. Picture quality is excellent. No problems so far and non expected.

  3. Julia

Some of the features in the unit are a bit annoying. Had to turn them off and put on mute. Found it a bit distracting the bleeps and beeps. Otherwise a nice unit.

I like Dashcam 45 and the security it brings me knowing it is recording while I drive. The other day I nearly hit a person on a bicycle. He was riding on the side of the street and suddenly he swerved in front of my car. He swerved to avoid a storm drain in the road. I was able to move over and not hit him, however I feel had I made contact with him I would have been the one at fault. With my Dashcam 45 recording I would have been able to show exactly what happened. I have since purchased a 2nd Dashcam and installed it in my rear window.

My first Garmin 45 was approximately 6 months old when it had an overheat issue. Garmin have replaced this device with a reconditioned 45 and I am yet to use this. It’s unfortunate because the Garmin 45 is a very durable unit and served its purpose as a record of my journeys. Lets hope the replacement has an upgrade that better controls heat dissipation

  6. Samantha

the older car it was plugged into had 12v on all the time on the accessory plug. Didnt kill the battery but filled up the 64gb flash. Needs rewiring to connect to the radio power on connector.

I bought it not long ago but already know will have it for years to come. Its just have a small glitch which it start asking me to install my memory card while im driving. But probably this could be resolve with an update

I’ve been using this cam now for about 4 days. I think it’s a great cam. The features are really nice. To me it does have a flaw for semi trucks. The lane departure warning goes off all the time even if you’re not out of lane. The only reason I didn’t knock it down a star is cause you can turn that off as well as forward collision warning. Overall I think it’s a good cam.

I bought this camera as a replacement to a Dash Cam 20 that was stolen. This camera works great. Video quality is excellent. Alerts can be annoying but they do what they’re supposed to do,( they can be turned off )The only issues are that the camera get very hot and shuts off, even after the updates. Doesn’t get as hot on 720P. the other issue is that you only get one replacement adhesive back mounting tape. Order the suction mount if you want to move to other vehicles.

I am totally satisfied with my Garmin 45 Dash Cam based on price, ease of setup and use and most importantly video image quality. I have also purchased a Garmin 55 Dash Cam that is now my front facing camera and 45 is now my rear facing cam.

Love this model, I have bought two more of the same for my granddaughter and my farm truck. The dash cam has saved my granddaughter from responsibility in a rear end wreck caused by road rage. The dash cam proved she was not at fault

Bought this camera due to owning a Garmin GPS unit. The company builds first class producte that always function a advertised. The camera is small and after setting up needs no input from you.

  13. Katherine

This camera is well made. I have no issues to report as this is a very dependable dash cam. I don’t leave home without it. Perfect size for the windshield not to big doesn’t stick out making it hard to notice depending on your placement of course. If you buy one you are sure to like it.

I got this a year ago and it’s still doing good. I like that I can pull videos off straight from my phone but it is a little glitchy when I do that. I captured a semi trailer tire explode and my video went viral. That video alone paid for the camera and more. I haven’t had any incidents where I needed to pull the video for anything.

Works well mostly. 1. Improvements needed in lane departure warning. My car has the feature and most of the time when it goes off the dashcam does not and vice versa. 2. Wish the videos and pictures were actually transferred to my smartphone when connected by the VIRB app. All you can do is view them on the phone while you are next to the dashcam and the dashcam is powered on. I’d rather be able to view them on my phone later and in a different place. 3. Also wish the screen were bigger. 4. Also would be nice if it came with 2 more magnets to mount in 2 other cars so the dashcam could be moved to different cars.

Since this is my first experience with a Dash Camera, I really don’t have anything to compare it to, so I will just comment on my use of this Garmin Dash Cam 45. I only purchased this because my son who is a fairly new driver with his own new car, wanted it and I thought it would be a good idea. I mounted the camera in the middle of the windshield and routed the wire down the drivers side of the windshield and plugged it into the 12v/lighter connection. The first time we used it I could not tell if it was on or not and if it was recording. My fault since I did not download the Garmin VIRB App to connect it to the camera. We just drove to see what would happen and what would be recorded. I still could not tell if anything was going on with the camera and I wasn’t able to get it to do anything I wanted it to do like play what was recorded. The so-called Instruction Manual that came with the dash cam was a “Quick Reference Guide” and mostly showed how to mount the camera, not very useful. So when we got home after that initial test run, I went online to get the full instruction manual to see what I did wrong. I also downloaded the VIRB app on my phone as well as the Garmin Express software on my laptop. These downloads weren’t as “user friendly” as I would have hoped for and I had to figure out how to navigate them to work with the dash cam. When I finally figured out how to get the dash cam, the VIRB app and the Garmin Express to all work together, is when I was actually told myself that this thing might actually be worth it. The LCD on the camera is not really useful other than for navigating through the menu on the camera because as a screen to view the videos or photos, you can’t really see much since it is so small. Now I understand that to have a camera with a small footprint you cannot have a large screen. The Driver Assist features work as advertised, those were the first things I noticed since both the Lane Departure and Forward Collision warning went off every time my son would drift outside his lane or get too close to the car in front of him at a stop light. These features actually work better then the same features on his 2018 Toyota Camry, although they were quite annoying. As he gets more driving time behind the wheel I may just turn off that feature if he wants. All in all, with this being my first purchase and experience with a dash cam, I found this Garmin Dash Cam 45 to be somewhat satisfying in that the features that were advertised is exactly what the camera was capable of although I did have a hard time getting them to work. I will probably get the Parking Mode Cable to “hard wire” this dash cam to my sons car to add the camera recording while parked feature which should add to the usefulness of this dash cam.

I have used several different dash cams over the years and so far the Garmin 45 has been the best camera in this price range. They have others that are just as good that have more features and cost more but for a Dash Cam with GPS tracking, time, date and speed stamp this is the best.

I’ve had Garmin Dash Cams for many years now & they just keep improving. I’d like Garmin to make one that is 3 cameras in one, along with the forward looking one I need one for each outside mirror looking backwards. Also, YOU NEED TO SELL JUST THE WINDOW MAGNETS SEPARATELY, I ONLY FIND THEM WITH THE MOUNT…I replaced my windshield & had to buy a mount along with the magnet. Spent money for something I didn’t need.

Bought this a month now.to day i went through some of the features and based upon what i have reviewed so far i will give 4 stars. i was able to play back the videos on my phone and i am very surprise at the clearness of the video especially the day time video, the night viedo good but could be better i hope garmin can send updates to give a clearer night picture. just be careful of your discussion in your vehicle it has a voice recorder that records everything you say in your vehicle and it plays back clearly in your replay. other gps feautres are good. the only problem i have now is having problem playing back the videos on my laptop i may not be doing something right so for that i will call the company to get help. ITHINK GARMIN HAS A GOOD PRODUCT all i think they should do is continue upgrading the product to make i clearer especially at night. overall i am very surprise of the clearness of the video. as a matter of fact i just recommend a friend to buy one.good neat camera and i hope garmin can continue to uprade. very very good product

Purchased this dash camera while on a cross country trip after my old one went belly up. I’ve had several different cameras in the past but all of them were poor performers or quality. The Garmin 45 so many features not expected in a dash cam really suprised me. It has excellent picture quality. Better than any other dash cam I’ve owned. Wish I had purchased a Garmin a long time ago.

I installed this dashcam on a Friday. It was a quick and easy setup, and I was fairly impressed with the picture and video quality, as qell as ease of use. Two days after installing, I hit a deer with my car. It happened so fast, I wasn’t sure which direction the deer came from, but after reviewing the video, it was clear what happened and why I couldn’t avoid it. I never imagined the camera would be useful immediately; I just wanted it in case I saw something interesting, and it would save me the trouble of pulling out my phone.

  23. Philip

Great camera, very small and inconspicuous. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars is that I have found when you use a 64 GB SD card it takes a very long time for the videos to download and show up in the vibe app. Upon initial connection to the camera it actually shows that there is no unsaved video for at least 3 minutes, software update fix?
