I like everything about this cooler, it is large, very spacious and it is a plus that the spout has a chain attached to keep it from getting misplaced.

  2. Madison

Plenty of room inside will be perfect for my needs

  3. Scott

The cooler is sturdy, so it ends up not being lightweight, which is a complaint that comes in reviews by people who don’t get this about performance roto-molded coolers. Ice retention is good when familiar with the basics of thermodynamics (aka following guidelines for pre-chilling the cooler and contents). The ONE big FAILURE for the manufacturer of these coolers is the drain assembly design. It clearly was not tested in a humid environment. Put it in humid East Texas and the drain plug sweats so badly that many people may be tricked into thinking the drain is leaking when really it’s just sweating profusely. I have to put a towel and moisture barrier under mine if sitting somewhere that a puddle of water will cause an issue. This needs to be fixed with some type of retro-fit.

I purchased this cooler for a camping trip and was very happy with it. Kept Ice frozen and food cold for 72 hours with a high in the low 90’s each day. Didn’t even have it in the shade.
My other cooler (old cheap cooler) had ice completely melted within 24 hours.
I would definitely recommend this cooler to anyone who needs a good 4 day camping cooler.

  5. George

This cooler is awesome. This is my second one. I have one in my bass boat and one in my sled. Extremely durable, keeps ice for a long time. Save yourself some money over the “other” brand!

  6. David

The rugged look of this cooler is what peaked my interest, and being at least half of it’s more expensive counterpart (yeti), i figured i would consolidate my small cooler collection. Great move, love the cooler basket and drain plugs. Cooler works great, even when not pre-chilled.

  7. Alan

It may not be a Yeti, but for about 1/3 the price, I used 6 lbs of Dry ice to cool it down and it lasted 3 days. I added in 30 lbs of Ice and we were golden for the next 4 days. The average temp was 85-92 in the shade. The cooler was in the sun the 1st half of the day and shaded druing the hottest part of the day. It works well for the price. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

  8. Stephen

used on 5 day road trip. works as advertised. solid. sturdy. way better value than Yeti or comparable expensive brands. ice remained after 5 days of 30C weather -yes there was meltage, but thats expected with constant opening/closing. Always kept much cooler than any cheap brand. No concerns.

  9. Jesse

Kept up with yeti and RTIC. Kept ice for 2 weeks at deer camp and temperatures got to high 80s. I got on sale so it was a absolute steal

  10. Virginia

I never really liked camping or going to a strange place to bbq. Until now, what an amazing cooler this is from Ozark. High performance is just the beginning. This cooler can keep ice in it for up to 9 days if you follow the ice guide that is included. Are you ready it has a wire basket inside 73 quart capacity. A fish ruler on top and the latch is also a bottle opener. Premium insulation keeps things so cold and there is even drink holders on the top. This is the best cooler I have ever owned and it’s amazing. Please when empty do not leave it around kids. You will enjoy this if you are the outdoor type, such a helping hand.

We got the Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler because we love to take trips and vacations with our entire family and a cooler like this big is a must have! Made out of a strong quality material, we like all the features it has: first of all, it is absolutely bear proof with anti-skid feet, has awesome handles with comfort grip, it has a rain with a plug, insulation that keeps the ice for over 9 days, and something that fathers will appreciate a lot is a stainless steel built-in bottle opener. To my wife’s surprise the cooler is very spacious and there is a wire basket inside where you can put bread/croissants or whatever you need in order not to be squash in the large container. It can also serve as a table for up to 4 drinks, each corner nesting a drink holder which is another awesome attribute! It is on the big side, 73 Quarts, and even without anything in it, only by itself, is very heavy already, about 35 pounds…looks very sturdy and durable, has a 5 year limited warranty and the stainless steel locking plate with the rubber closures it’s easy to manage! Overall, an awesome cooler design and I can’t wait to take it to the beach and/or camping!

  12. Michelle

Just WoW!!!!!! 5 stars all day long on this product. Built like a brick house best thing I’ve seen as far as coolers. Passes the test! Enjoy!

  13. Walter

Very durable and keeps ice for a few days. I’ve used it 3 times for camping, kept outside in the summer, mostly shaded and items stay very cold for 4 days, ice for 3. The cooler was being opened an closed all the time too which I know makes a difference. Very strong and a great size for family camping. Handles hold it well and make it easy to carry and man does it get heavy when loaded. Use it as a bench and cutting board. One tip, put a bag of ice in it a day or two before you go, “prime it up”. You’ll notice a huge difference in hot weather.

  14. Julia

I was impressed with this cooler. Its very well built and still has plenty of room on the inside to pack food and drinks. I put this cooler to the test as soon as I got it. I filled it with ice and placed it in the back of the truck. It stayed in the 90 degree sun for 6 days and still some ice left.

  15. Brenda

This very large cooler is perfect for boaters, fishermen, picnickers and those wishing to store emergency supplies. The lid features four cup holders and a handy fish ruler. They claim that it will keep ice for 9 days which, to me, is amazing. The t-handle latches make carrying easy for two people and the locking plate also features a bottle opener. What else could you need or want? It comes with an oversized drain and wire basket which fits nicely on the inside. Advertised as “virtually unbreakable” it is supposedly bear proof. I have not tested that as yet but I don’t doubt it with the solid construction. It also comes with anti-skid feet so that it will stay in place in your boat or truck bed. All in all I am impressed and highly recommend it.

I received this item from the Spark Reviewer program and was asked to provide an unbiased review. The Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler is a beast of a cooler. This cooler is substantial in size and weight…it is 31”L x 20”T x 18”D and 30+lbs(empty). This cooler is built to last. The handles on the sides are made of webbing and are well-designed to handle the weight of this cooler. The latches on the front for made of thick rubber and create a lock tight seal when hooked. There is a stainless steel plate embedded in the front to pad lock the cooler, the steel plate can also be used as a bottle opener. There is a very nice wire basket inside to keep items from laying on the ice or getting wet. The cooler also has a nice drain system. The drain plug works in two ways…the smaller black cap can be removed to drain water, you can also hook a standard hose to this drain…or, you can remove the larger orange plug to drain the cooler quickly. The book states it is certified bear-resistant…I’ll take their word on it. However, I would give it two thumbs up on kid-resistant…this thing is tough. You are supposed to pre-chill this type of cooler to get the maximum effect…meaning ice it down, get it cold, then ice it again for the long haul. I just did a simple test with about five pounds of ice and put it on my deck. The cooler did awesome. I fully believe it would meet most expectations if you follow the directions. Overall, I am very pleased with the Ozark Trail High-Performance Cooler. I would definitely recommend this cooler to anyone seeking a well-designed, very durable cooler that will last for years.

  17. Deborah

Ozark Trail 73-Quart High Performance Cooler is really the top of the line when it comes to coolers!Make sure you read all the directions before using this cooler for the first time. Directions say to pre-chill the cooler with ice the night before you use it and use block ice because it melts at a slower rate than ice cubes do. According to the directions the fuller your cooler is, the longer your contents will stay cold. This cooler is packed with some really great features! It will keep your ice for more than 9 days. That’s a really long time to keep ice! This cooler will come in really handy during hurricane’s and other severe weather conditions that come in to our vicinity. I love the roto-molded construction and it has a UV-resistant exterior. It has heavy duty handles with a really comfortable grip and a nice oversized drain on the side. It also has a wire basket for foods that I did not want soaking in the ice water. Now, it is very heavy but extremely durable and it has reversible anti-skid/slide feet. We found that to be extremely helpful because when you put food and drinks in the cooler it gets even heavier so we could just slide it into place wherever we wanted to position it. It has a fish ruler on the top along with drink holder to put your drinks. And if that’s not enough, this cooler is bear-resistant for when we take a trip to the mountains! One other feature that I like is that it has a place for a padlock right on the front so if you need to lock up your food for any reason, you may do so. I am giving this cooler the 5 star rating that it truly deserves! So happy with Ozark Trail!!!

  18. Marilyn

This cooler is awesome and it will be great for camping or just sitting on the deck. Very sturdy and will keep your items cold for days I would really recommend this especially when going fishing it has a tape measure made on top of the cooler to measure your fresh catch. Has a basket for items that you don’t want directly in the ice. Very nice cooler.

  19. Judith

I thought it was going to be a tiny little thing but boy was I wrong! It is very big, built very sturdy and the inside is night and deep to load things like ice and drinks on full. Has a great drainer on the side and it’s only holding basket to keep things like sandwiches right above the ice nice and cool. It’s like a mini freezer!

  20. Diane

This cooler is huge can really hold everything you need for days out camping. Its about 32 inches long and 20 inches tall and about 18 inches deep. The top has four cupholders and a ruler so you can measure your fish. The handles are very heavy duty built to last. This cooler definitely takes two people to carry but the handles make it very easy to do so. The rubber latches in the front make a lock tight seal when hook so you can keep all your items cold. We left it out all night and everything stayed very cold and ice was still there! Theres a wired basket on the inside to keep those items up that you don’t want in the ice or with the drinks. I was surprised with how much we could actually fit in there. We made a joke that its like a second refrigerator. The drain system has multiple options for you to drain , theres a smaller black cap that can be removed, you can attach a hose to drain away from camp, theres also a larger orange plug for a fast drain. Overall very please with this product with reccomend 100%.

  21. Sandra

The Ozark Trail 73 At. High performance cooler is fantastic. It’s just over 32 inches long about 18 inches tall & about 19 inches deep . There are 4 built in cup holders on top and has a petal reinforced plate to lock with your lock. When loaded it will take 2 people to carry , the handles make that easy .Inside there is a wire basket to hold items up from water and ice , ea. chips or bread etc. We used it for 5 days in 90 plus heat and still had most of our ice ! It’s great and a lot cheaper than the big name brands .

  22. Jesse

First thing you will notice when either buying or checking out in the store is the weight. Its heavy. Probably 30-35 lbs. empty. Before I get in to the entire review I would suggest that the manufacturer make this item more portable. Whether that is wheels or some other way it would be a great option as if this is full it would take two very strong people to move it. Otherwise, fill it where you want to leave your cold stuff (think small refrigerator) and you will not be disappointed. So, the insulation on this cooler is amazing and you will have no worries about melting ice. The premium insulation and rugged construction are complemented by a whole range of features, like a stainless-steel locking plate with built-in bottle opener, T-handle latches, reversible anti-skid/slide feet, a garden hose-compatible oversized drain with threaded plug, wire basket, four drink holders, a built-in fish ruler and heavy-duty handles with comfort grips for easy carrying. I checked out all these features and they are fantastic! I learned the hard way that the anti-skid feet were engaged as I tried unsuccessfully to slide it. Good news is they are reversible. The final funny claim to me is it is supposed to be bear resistant. I didn’t want to find a bear to check this out but it makes sense as you don’t want bears sniffing around anyway. Final thoughts, I would go with the smaller version unless you need the capacity as this thing is a beast to carry. But I do like this size and it is much cheaper than other coolers with similar characteristics.characteristics.

I travel out of state to visit family a lot and it seems that no cooler could stand the 48-72 hour trip without losing the ice. I spent more on replacing ice than I did on the food it was keeping! I had heard of the reputation of these coolers to maintain ice for long periods of time so when I had the chance to try one I jumped on it. I was very surprised at how heavy it is! The construction is great and having the extra basket inside is great for keeping food out of the water or ice. I will be going on a trip in a few weeks and plan on bringing home some frozen items. In the past I have had to replace the ice at least twice to do this, I will see just how well this cooler does. I did put a bag of ice in it just to see how long it would last, it has been 4 days today and it is still pretty much all there still.

  24. Adam

The item is a huge cooler. It is heavy and solid – My wife and I would need to both pick it up and move it. I might have exaggerated it – the item is too wide for 1 person to carry! But it is doable if 2 are on it.The idea is like a chest freezer – with a small stand on top to separate food. And the bottom has a drain hole to allow water to escape when cleaning. The seal is tight and with the two flexible lock in front – it is tight. I have not tested it on the upside down to see if it leaks – but I would not do so as this is tight for my purpose. Water always goes bottom.I used a small one for my camping trip just past summer. I have to go out of the camp site to replenish my food after day one. Now, with this my friend – I will ba able to hold 3 days of food the least and still cool. One whole trip.

  25. Bobby

The Ozark Trail 73-Quart High – Performance Cooler is very nice,. You can see that it’s well made being heavy -duty molded seamless construction. I like that by being one peice construction it’s less like to wear out and start to leak. The reversible slide feet are nice and it’s great that you can lock then in place while cooler is in the back of a pick up, nothing worst than a cooler sliding around in the back while your driving. The t- handle latches are different for me but I think I like the idea, it’s a more unique way for keeping the cooler closed. I think it could be a good thing- bad thing when it comes to children. The little ones won’t be able to open it (good n bad) constantly. Parents can easily keep track of how much soda kids are having if they can’t open the cooler. The big drain plug on the side is very nice and being threaded is a plus. It’s winter time here so I haven’t gotten to try this cooler yet but I think I will definitely like it for it’s durability. I’m interested in seeing how well bag ice will last since I don’t know if there’s anywhere to buy block ice iny area. I don’t think you would be disappointed in purchasing this product.

I have the opportunity to test the Ozark Trail 73 Quart Cooler for the Spark Reviewer Program. I think the first thing I would mention is I would prefer the 50 quart in most cases. This seemed quite heavy (weighing in at a whopping 30lbs) and that is without any ice or product in the cooler. This holds up to 80lbs of ice plus the 30lb cooler and you aren’t going anyplace with this real fast. But back to the 73 Quart Ozark Cooler. This is a huge cooler. The size is just large to me. The build is quite nice. I like the material which adds to the weight. Yet, its made with good quality. I would be very confident that this wouldn’t break or tear or get ripped open. There is a picture of a bear trying to get into the cooler in the manual and its easy to see that he wouldn’t be able to. Definitely quality made cooler. The issue of how long will this hold ice comes up over and over. Its advertised as 9 days. Many people are saying this just doesn’t hold my cans of pop for 9 days. Here are the reasons for the 9 day add. The 9 days is the maximum length the ice would be solid if the cooler were filled to the brim with ice and not opened for the time and not left in the sunlight. A maximum length of time that in reality will not occur.I think the typical time and I have seen the testing of this item in some videos is about 4-6 days. The more ice you have in the cooler the longer the life span of the ice and cooler. If the cooler is in the sun that will cut down on time. Also, opening and closing the cooler will cut down on days of usage. I feel for this size If you put in 40 lbs. of cubed ice which is about half full and then add food and drink you will get 4 good days out of the cooler. I’ve seen some videos where they promote there brand to last longer but there could be other factors besides opening and closing the cooler. Which holds up better in the sun? Or which holds the ice longer on movement? Overall, this is comparable with most coolers on the market and I like the design and strength of the cooler. You can sit on it for example without any worries. Its very sturdy. I think If I were designing this I would like a suitcase type opening that snaps shut. The rubber closures seemed different to me but I have never seen a piece of this type of rubber rip so it should be ok. They guarantee the product for 5 years for normal wear and tear which is better than most 1 year warranties that are often found. To conclude: This is a nice looking Cooler. Ozark makes smaller coolers which to me seem more practical as you would be able to lift those more easily. This is a monster with food in it. Its rock solid and a definite buy. Happy camping.

I have the Ozark Trail 73-quart High Performance Cooler. This cooler is gray with some orange accents. This first thing I noticed about this cooler is how heavy it is when empty – it is just over 35lbs. It does have some very nice sturdy handles on each side but once full with ice and drinks or food it will definitely require two people to move it. This cooler is about 31x21x18 so is a really big cooler! The construction is very nice and solid and it is advertised as being certified bear resistant, although I have not tested that feature. This lid is made with four drink holders on top of it and also has a ruler built into it. I guess that is for the fishermen of the crowd although I would not want fish around my nice cooler – eek! This lid also has a locking plate, which I suppose would be a great feature if you are camping in bear country. Another cool feature is that the lid has a built-in bottle opener that is part of the locking pate. There are also two T-handle latches. The cooler has an oversized drain that has a threaded plug that is compatible to your garden hose. This lets you drain it quickly with or without a hose. It comes with a wire basket for items that you wish to keep above the ice or separate. This is an awesome cooler that appears to be near indestructible. It seems to hold ice really well and I believe you could go on about a week vacation and have no issues with keeping your drinks/food cold. I would recommend this cooler to anyone that needs a large cooler. Just remember that it is very heavy empty and is near impossible for one person to move alone once it contains ice/food/drink.

  28. Cynthia

  29. Alice

This cooler is awesome. It is very large and heavy, I was surprised how much can fit inside. The wire rack that’s included is a neat bonus feature for separating certain things you may not want sitting in ice but still need to keep cold. I’ve filled this thing with several large bottles and a few cases of cans and felt like I probably could have still put in a lot more. I did fill it with homemade ice as suggested and although it took forever to fill, I must say it did keep for a good week with limited opening and closing. Draining was rather easy with the oversized drain spout. Fair warning, when this thing is properly filled it will require two people to move it around as it gets even heavier. I will definitely be looking into getting the smaller version to accompany this one on my next camping trip as I’ll probably use this one as a food freezer (limited opening and closing) and the smaller as a drink cooler.

This cooler is heavy. It weighs about 32lbs empty. It is made out of molded plastic that is some heavy duty stuff! It appears that the cooler part is all one piece. No seams. The lid appears to be molded as all one piece also. Same heavy duty molded plastic with no seams. It has a nylon handle on each end that is made of nylon webbing with a rubber handle grip in the center. The handles would be easily replaceable if ever needed. The cooler itself has 4 non-slip feet. The lid is hinged to the cooler, not removable, with a steel hinge. The lid has a rubber seal that seals it too the cooler. It has 2 heavy duty rubber latches for latching it closed (the rubber latches could be easily replaced as well if ever needed) and a place to lock the cooler closed in the center. The bottom plate for the locking plate is stainless steel and has a built in bottle opener. On top of the lid is a 27 inch ruler for measuring fish, it also has 4 shallow cup holders with drains that drain off the sides. On the right side near the bottom is a large threaded plug for draining the cooler, the plug has fins that make it easy to tighten or loosen. It also has a ball chain so the plug does not get lost when unscrewed, in the center of the plug is a threaded nipple for attaching a garden hose for draining through a hose. The cap on the nipple and the plug itself are both O-ring sealed. Inside there is a metal wire basket for placing items you want to keep dry. We took this cooler to the lake for an all-day outing. We did not precool it as recommended we just filled it about 50% with canned beverages then filled it with ice. When we got home and drained it there was very little liquid and most the ice had not melted. It was only 85 degrees that day. We had a person who weighs about 400lbs sitting on the cooler most of the day since we were short on chairs and the cooler was not phased at all. When loaded like this the cooler is very heavy and very hard to slide because of the non-slip feet. Overall this cooler is quite good and holds a lot keeping ice frozen for a long time. Can’t wait to go on a fishing trip with it! I would definitely recommend this cooler.

The Ozark Trail 73 quart high performance cooler has many features that include: a fish ruler, drink holders, wire basket, T-handle latches, stainless steel locking plate, heavy duty comfort grip handles, an over-sized drain with a garden hose hook-up and reversible anti-skid or slide feet pads. The cooler is also certified bear resistant by the USDA’s interagency grizzly bear committee. It performed exactly as I was hoping it would. I live in the desert and camp in the mountains at 8000 feet elevation. Up in the mountains ice is an expensive commodity and you may have to drive 20 miles to get it. I take as much ice as I can with me. After I picked this cooler up I followed the instructions to cool it down before putting ice into it. Then I put block ice on the bottom. I don’t use purchased block ice instead I freeze water in half gallon rectangular juice bottles. Five of those fit flat across the bottom of the Ozark Trail 73 quart high performance cooler. I then stopped at the store to get two 20 pound bags of ice to put on top of the frozen bottles. It was 106 degrees outside and the bagged ice was already melting when I put it in the cooler. I drove north for three hours to my camping spot. The cooler was in my truck bed exposed to the sun for the whole trip. When I unloaded the cooler I opened it to see how much ice had melted and was surprised to see that the little bit that had melted refroze on the bottom of the cooler. I only use this cooler to transfer ice to other coolers so I only open it once a day. I move about three pounds of ice to other coolers every day. To make a long story short on the tenth day I still had about three pounds of ice cubes left and the frozen juice bottles were only 75% thawed. Temps in the mountains were 40 to 70 degrees and of course I keep the cooler in the shade. I am so impressed that I may pick-up a smaller Ozark Trail high performance cooler to go with this larger one.

I received this item from the Spark Reviewer program and was asked to provide an unbiased review. The Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler is a beast of a cooler. WOW! Reviews for this cooler are all over the map! Mainly because of the many ways this cooler can be loaded, stored, type of ice, precooled, not precooled etc. so i’ll 1st talk about its construction, then how I tested it and finally my thoughts. First it comes in a little over 35 lbs empty but seems heavier. There is a wheel kit I thought about getting for it or the 52 quart but it’s sold out at the moment costing about $40. I had no leaks or even a drip from it’s hose or oversized drain plug. When turned on its side it never leaked either thanks to the gasket with no seam. I like the basket and my wife wants to add a second one. The basket, it’s heavy duty tote handles,Tee handle latches, garden hose / oversized drain and anti skid pads can all be bought at Walmart if replacement is needed. It even has a bottle opener built into its stainless steel locking plate. Yes it has 4 cup holders built in but they’re not very deep and i’ll probably never use the built-in fish ruler on it’s top but I won’t hesitate to use it to sit or stand on. As for testing it, I put it on my porch where it would get direct sun from 8am-11am then again from about 4pm-7pm with highs in the mid 80’s and lows at night in the high 60’s. I had added a frozen gallon of water, a frozen 2 liter, about 15lbs of ice from my icemaker(not recommended in the ice packing guide included) and 4 chill bags i had in my freezer. No food/beverages added or pre-chilling done to chest as recommended. Opened several times a day to check how much ice was left. On the 4 day at the almost exact hour i started the test about a 1/4 of ice left in the gallon jug was all that was left with the water ice cold. It’s looking to be the best cooler i’ve ever owned but then again i don’t think i ever spent over $40 for my 15 to 20 year old ones and with those I remember adding ice the next day. I can see the Ozark Trail 73 quart sized one lasting 4 to 6 days when filled all the way with crushed/cubed ice and precooled just like the packing guide shows.

I live in Maine and camp in remote wilderness areas a lot each summer. I’d been looking at more expensive name brand coolers that are both bear proof and that hold ice longer – as I don’t like having to go to town to buy ice every few days. My family and I just got home from an 11 day camping trip that we used this cooler for. I did not properly chill the cooler before leaving (because I was getting twin 13 yo girls ready for an 11 day wilderness trip and forgot) but I did put some ice in it the night before filling it up and leaving.

Here is what happened with the cooler, I froze a 2.5 gallon jug of water and a 1 gallon jug to put in the cooler with our food, instead of cubes because blocks always last longer. Doing this also enables you to drink cold water as it melts, which historically we’d have had lots more of than we did this year, due to the cooler performing so well that the ice took a LONG time to melt. Secondly, my girls are growing and always looking for snacks, holding the cooler top open for 5 mins at a time looking for something that they think would magically have appeared since the last time they did it. Realize too that it was very warm out most days when they were doing this – about 85 degrees.

Here is how the cooler performed: the first notable thing was how well the seal worked – in fact, we had to open the drain spout to get some air flowing into it in order to pry the top open when we first arrived at our campsite. I was happy with that, knowing the bears and raccoons wouldn’t be able to smell what was inside so well. Second, the ice retention was unreal! On our 7th day at camp, we went on our first store run and I felt this urge to buy ice, thinking we were doomed to need it. (Normally by day 7 we’d have had to buy ice at least once.) I bought two blocks and when we got back to the campsite I opened up the cooler and took all of the food out to get to my frozen water jugs to find that they were each still about 2/3 frozen!!! Yes, the 2.5 gallon one was almost entirely still frozen solid and the 1 gallon jug about halfway. AMAZING! We had to eat perishable food in order to fit the unnecessary ice blocks in the cooler. Not to mention, we did not have to drain the cooler at all…nothing was floating around in gross water from ice melt and there was barely any icky condensation!

Afterthoughts: Upon arriving home, we usually have to toss out uneaten food because it’s spoiled in the ever changing temps of a traditional cooler or it’s so waterlogged from the ice melt that it’s just gross. This time, we had neither problem so we simply put the food away in our fridge and we done with it! The money saved on ice and food waste paid for this cooler already. Great buy for this family.

One thing I noticed that was a bad design was the very large spout for draining the cooler and that this large area has no insulation. In order to reduce the problems that could’ve resulted from that issue, I put my ice block right up against it this first time using it. I’m going to buy a thick piece of styrofoam and cut several circles to size to put inside of that hole on the inside of the cooler to use each time we take the cooler on long trips, just to reduce any loss of cool air or intro of hot air into the bottom of the cooler. This fix is a small price to pay considering what a great buy this was. It is so strong, the hinges will never break, and we will have this cooler when we bring our grandchildren camping. As I said, it has already paid for itself in the savings of the food we’d have had to toss and the immense amounts of ice we’d have had to buy if we used our Coleman Xtreme…Next time, I am going to pre-freeze two 2.5 gallon water jugs and won’t need to go buy any ice at all for the entire two week trip. The ice in the jugs outperformed the ice blocks I bought and didn’t cause any leakage of water in the cooler.

This is a very well built cooler. I put ice and drinks in it one morning. It held ice all day in 100+ full sun in the back of my truck. I checked it the next afternoon after it sat all day in full sun and 100 degree heat and it still had ice in it . By the next afternoon in the same conditions it still had ice cold water in it. A yeti would have done no better than this in these conditions. Save yourself some dough and buy this cooler.

  36. Raymond

The only complaint I have here is the cup holders could be deeper in the lid and the handles could be configured a bit differently to allow for a tie down space without removing them.

Use block ice, pre-cool the cooler, and limit the lid openings and this will keep ice very well. It is very comparable to much higher priced units. The anti skid feet are definitely anti skid. It can make loading a bit frustrating. I’m 205 lbs and I can stand on one foot in the center of this lid and it doesn’t deflect. It’s very well built.

  37. Joe

My buddy had this cooler for six months and I had the fortune of using it and it’s great; however, if you put ice in it without cooling it down first you will just go through ice like a typical cooler. Take a gallon jug of water and freeze it and keep it available so that when your getting ready to use the cooler you can put that frozen jug in the cooler and get it cooled down, then your ice will last as stated in the advertising. The biggest issue I have with this cooler is just getting one as it has taken me over 1/2 a year to finally find one in stock!!! Cmon Walmart, when you have something that people want you need to get it and keep in stocked!!!

Wow, Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler Has to beat any cooler I have ever seen. I love the sandwich rack and when the information booklet that is attached says keeps ice for 9 days if you follow instructions, They mean it. And they are correct. I can’t wait to take my family camping this summer. Thanks Walmart ✨

The Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler is the best cooler I have ever owned. This cooler keeps ice for days. I use it to keep drinks cool without overloading the fridge. I can keep it closer to the tv so no missed plays at game time. I also use it for the guest room to keep everything cold for the weekend with one bag of ice. I will also use it for camping and fishing trips and other daylong outings.

I gotOzark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler in preparation for any power outage. After Hurricane Harvey a couple years ago, it became apparent that there may be times when long-term cooling is needed due to extended power outage after natural disasters. It is easy to prepare the cooler by icing down ahead of time and then filling with ice to keep food and beverages cool. I did not do a full loading of the cooler, but it is apparent that it does maintain the ice for extended periods compared to smaller colors that I have. I think this will be extremely helpful in stressful times, if needed. For others who might use this cooler for a camping, hunting or fishing trip, I think this would be a good investment.

  41. Paul

We took this ice chest camping over the weekend and not only did it keep our meats and cheese and drinks cold, but when we got home the kids were told to empty everything out of it! Well they didn’t and about four days later when I realized they hadn’t, I opened the chest up to find that there was still ice cubes inside along with everything else being good still! In moderate temperatures too! Highly recommend! Thank you

So stoked on getting this Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler that’s built like a tank to last! This cooler performed great preserving everything cold and ice barely melted. We live in Florida and one thing for sure the heat here will test your cooler to the max and make it work hard. We had the Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler out in the sun on a family gathering with lots of opening of the lid with so many kids around it wasn’t funny. The ice held up great to our surprise and maintain everything in it pretty cold. The size of this particular cooler it’s fine for the size of our family. This thing is built strong and durable as heck specially can tell while sitting on it also the only downside is it weighs a lot even empty but we can deal with that. The pale gray color on cooler is obvious to reflect heat and the closures are strong that you have to use a bit of pull down force to close also the carry handles gives you more flexibility to carry with the nylon straps. We do like it that it comes with lock fixture to put lock on it, washed off easily and also convenient it has 4 cup holders on lid also the inside basket rack to keep items separate from getting wet. This Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler is awesome, more affordable than another brand and we’ll use the heck out of it in this FL weather as we do lots of outdoor activities.

  43. Dennis

I love my 73 quart high performance cooler , we used it for a weekend function. The cooler is very durable and strong and it kept our water, ice and sodas cold for hours. The cooler was very easy to carry and lifted with no problems because of it handles on each side. The wire basket inside was very strong to hold our other items. The latch lock is very strong you don’t have to worry about it coming unlock for any reason. The cooler will sit flat on any surface, it also have a drain plug which we used to drain the water out of the cooler. We sat our drinks/sodas on the drink holders which was exciting for us, the bottle opener was very handy for opening our bottle drinks because we did not have an opener, oh what a life saver. My son plans to use it again to go fishing and is excited to see the measurements of the fish he will catch. I think every home needs this strong high performance cooler, when you get this cooler and see what it does for you and a great life saver you will not need any of those other brand coolers you may have.

  44. Rachel

Perfect cooler. Kept ice for 5 days. Bought it for the back of my Polaris General. Strapped in great and didn’t bounce around. Would definitely recommend.

  45. Kathryn

just love it we do a lot of fishing so this is ideal, keeps ice a week. plus there was a lot to it that i didn’t know , screw on cork divider. I am more than pleased and recommend it to anyone!!!!

  46. Hannah

This cooler works great. It is very large, so there is plenty of space for several days. It is roto molded, which means it is very well insulated so will keep ice for several days.

  47. Janice

Best cooler! My husband LOVES it!

  48. Richard

I bought one of these because it appeared to be as well built as a Yeti but was half the cost. I wasn’t disappointed. This thing is a beast and keeps ice for longer than I have ever needed on my all day fishing trips in the Gulf of Mexico in July. It is super strong. You can stand on it. I got the grey and the top does get hot so I recommend the white if you plan to use it as a seat. I hope they make a bigger one because I am wanting to buy one for King Mackerel.

  49. Jane

Put ice in it when I left the house 5 hrs later the bottom of the water bottles were frozen!

  50. Katherine

It has all the bells and whistles that coolers twice the price have.
    Don B. , Lexington Ky

  51. Jacqueline

My family and I go on long camping trips the first around the 4th of July on this last trip compared to last year we used 80 percent less ice! I will recommend this cooler to all my friends.

  52. Heather

This cooler held ice for 5 days, in the back of my husband’s truck that sat in the sun every day. Even bigger plus is that it fits great on the boat! Well worth the money! Definitely will be buying more Ozark coolers and hoping they will put a bigger one out!

  53. Alice

The ozark trail 73 quart cooler is one of the best coolers around. It holds so much food and beverages you will be happy you bought this it is worth the price.it is great for kids soccer games baseball games or is the best for tailgating at sport events you will be glad you have one this is top quality

  54. Brandon

I have used this two times now, once on a 5 day camping trip and again on a 2 day fishing trip. This cooler is amazing! I froze all my water and items we were taking and place them into the cooler and then add a bag or two of ice. When we returning home we still had items frozen. I have never had that happen before. The daily temperatures were in the mid to upper 90s. What a wonderful item, you will not be disappointed!

  55. Cheryl

I received this 73 Quart Ozark Trail High – Performance Cooler in returnfor my honest review. The cooler arrived in a thin cardboard box and hadbubble rap located on the front and right side of the cooler and arrivedundamaged and ready to use. The gray cooler is made from polyethyleneand weighs in at 38.14 pounds and is 31.50 X 20.08 X 19.10 inches in size. There are two handles located on the right and left side that allow for easycarry. There is an accessory wheel kit available depending on your requirements. The top of the cooler has four built in cup holders and a 27 inch long fishruler. The cooler has reversible anti/skid feet to meet your needs, nice feature.A garden hose-compatible over sized drain plug is located on the lower righthand side of the cooler. The cooler is lockable and has a bear resistant rating. The lid is closed using two T-handle latches and has a built in bottle openerincorporated into the stainless steel locking plate. A wire basket allows thingslike eggs, bread or sandwiches from having to sit atop the ice helping to keepthem dry and secure. This a large capacity cooler and most likely weighs over 100 lbs when full ofice food and drinks. For any make of high performance cooler to meet expectations the same procedure is needed to be followed. Pre-chill the cooler, max outthe ice so it is just inches below the cover, submerge all cans under the ice,try and keep the cooler in the shade, open the cooler for the shortest amountof time possible. If you buy a big cooler and only use a minimal amount of ice then you will be very disappointed with the results as it will melt morequickly that in a smaller cooler. My only concern with the Ozark Trail 73 Quart Cooler is the t-handle latches. My personal preference is a quick cam mechanism. This is not a functional issue as both systems work equally well.I would recommend this cooler to anyone who has carefully defined theirneeds and is looking of a great value in a high performance cooler.

  56. Timothy

Great cooler keeps drinks and anything u put in the cooler cold for days i have it keep ice for 5 and 6 days it is a little on the heavy side when full so it will take 2 people to move but it has plenti of room so the weight is no big problem it does have 2 ways to drain the cooler a small opening for water and a big opening to drain it all

  57. Walter

Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler this is a great cooler perfect size for long weekend camps enough room for everything beer sodas bacon sausages as well as the ice its supposed to keed ice for up to 9 days but cant vouch for that living in nevada we hav e hot summers but it does keep for the 3 days we went camping has 4 cup holders in lid so doubles as table and extremely strong carrying handles with holes in the lid and box you can pasdlock it and its bear proof

  58. Roger

I purposely requested this very large cooler(exterior measurement of 30.5″ X 19.5″ X 18″ and inside measurement of 24.6″ X 13.7″ X 12″) in the advent of an electrical outage or other natural disasters. It is advertised with a 9-day storage capacity when fully packed with ice and food. It has heavy-duty handles for lifting and secure T- handle latches. It is advertised as UV resistant and bear-resistant.With ant-slide skid bottom, you wouldn’t have to worry about it in the back of your truck moving around. The locking plate with bottle opener adds to a smart design and safety feature to prevent kids from becoming trapped when the cooler is empty. A wire basket is included to help arrange your food items. This baby is heavy. 35.25 pounds empty. A full load of ice and food would require two people to safely carry it about, for this reason, I would suggest the addition of removable foldable wheels to add in getting it around while still being anti-skid in your truck. Please note that I have NOT used this item and hope my area doesn’t get any ice storms this Winter and the power stays on!

  59. Julia

This Ozark Trail 73-quart cooler is a step above any cooler I have been around in my 60 plus years of camping. First off it is a little on the heavy side, which is good for what it was designed for, and that is to insulate against warm outside temps. From the included brochures, it appears the manufacturers have done extensive real life testing for ice retention inside the cooler and this cooler can maintain ice for at least nine hours if packed correctly and you follow the included directions. Mainly, just remember to fill cooler completely with ice(preferably freezer ice, not ice maker ice) and products you want to keep cold and don’t leave air pockets, and try to not leave cooler in direct sunlight and keep lid shut. Basic stuff! It has very strong rubber tension straps for keeping lid tight and a nifty garden hose attachment drain, although you can drain right out of cooler without hose. Carry handles are on a strap with easy to hold plastic grips or you can grab cooler with a bear hug as it has inserts for your hand on the cooler body itself. Speaking of bears, it has actually been tested in a bear enclosure and they state it was still bear proof after that! A five year warranty on materials and workmanship so it is one tough cooler and looks good too. My only complaint is the built in measurement markings etched in to the cooler top. When friends ask about the whopper fish I just caught, I can’t lie about the length cause they check it against the coolers’ built in measurement. Hopefully that will be unreadable in a few years!? Seriously though, I love the cooler!

  60. Joyce

The Ozark Trail 73 Wuart High-Performance Coolers is a really good product great for a Camping, Fishing, even at home when you need more room to keep your products refrigerated for more than a week. Is big enough for a couple dozens of cans and is really hard the quality is excellent, this is a smart buy.

  61. Peter

I knew when I ordered the Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler that it would be bigger than the ordinary cooler but WOW!! It’s very large!! I decided to put it to a test. So, I got 2 30 packs of my favorite beverage and 40# of ice(cubed). I filled the Ozark Trail 73-Quart High-Performance Cooler with the cans and the ice. It made it about 2/3 full. The 1st thing I did was try to lift it, not going to happen. I’m a good sized guy and I could barely move it! It took myself and a friend to move it which was no problem for two. I was really impressed that the cubed ice lasted for over 5 days. I would recommend the Ozark Trail 73-Quart High Performance Cooler for anyone especially campers and party givers!!

  62. Emma

  63. Carl

Purchased this cooler to use at the beach. It worked great and did the job as advertised in 90°+ weather on the Texas Gulf coast. Love that it has a tray and the drain plug was handy after use.

  64. Aaron

not your momma’s cooler. Big and perfect on our new deck. Can be sat upon and keeps ice a long time. Haven’t timed it yet but it looks like it will last 2 or more days easily.

  65. Alice

Bought this cool while looking for another name brand cooler. Looked over the reviews here and on some other sites and decided that I’d take the risk. I went with the larger size, 73 qt since I do lots of long weekend camping and hunting. This is great! Just like all of these type of coolers you have to sacrifice a bag or two of ice to get the results (I have a few gallons jugs of water in my freezer for this task that I reuse). this will keep things cold, and it will freeze slice-meats if you are not careful. I have had it out for 4 days and never needed to refill the ice, cooler was left out in the sun of west Texas on my last trip (over 80 all day).

positives: size (true 73qt), weight (lighter than others of the same), price, color (I like the grey/orange), cup holders, lockable, integrated bottle opener, 2 types of feet, large valve that you can attach a hose to.

negatives: latches look to be the weakest part and they are difficult to get locked, valve keeper chain gets in the way, valve tends to sweat.

  66. Madison

All coolers like yeti, brute, ozarka trail, igloo will eat your ice up before use. It only makes sense that it will because most people store them in the garage at hotter temp. Now here is what I do before each use-
    * store the cooler in your house the day before you use it with the lid open
    * or put a small bag of ice in it the day before you use it to drop the temp, this will help you save bags of ice. Once the cooler is chilled down, you will have ice for many day. Yes many days even down here in South Texas.

  67. Donald

Ok so I own all 3 Ozark trail rotos now (I keep the 52 on my boat and the 26 in my truck) and I have to say the 73-quart is my favorite size. It held ice well over 5 days during my last hunting trip and as far as I’m concerned that’s pretty awesome… Now I laugh at my friends that have paid 2x as much for their Yeti’s.

  68. Elizabeth

I just wanted to share my experience so far… Originally I was disappointed in this cooler. I’d put one 6lb bag of ice in and it’d only last a day or so… I contacted the support number and they were pretty helpful. They gave me some tips and let me know that I really wasn’t using enough ice compared to the size of the cooler… which looking back at it, I guess that makes sense… To give them benefit of the doubt, before returning the cooler, I filled it half full of ice, I’m guessing it was 40lbs or so of ice, and BAM! I got 5 days out of it. I don’t usually need that much time anyway (I keep the cooler at my cottage… which is basically my weekend home) and that IS a lot of ice, but at least now I know I need to really stock it up with ice if I want it to last the weekend out on the deck (the drinks gotta keep flowing for the weekend). I’m pretty happy now. 5 star cooler. Great price, great support and great performance. Sure it’s not as much of a brag piece as my bud’s Yeti, but I don’t care… I wish the Ozark came with stickers though!

  69. Joe

One thing to keep in mind if your drinks are cold when you put them in it will hold ice longer. Another thing to remember is bagged ice is made to melt quick so you’ll buy more. I always make quart size ice blocks to add with bagged ice. Add 4 quart size ice blocks to a bag of ice and you will be amazed at the difference. I also have a yeti and do the same with it. Definitely a good bang for your buck.

  70. Donna

Great cooler for half the price of a Yeti. Solid construction with stainless steel hardware and wire basket. Only I wish they would have made the straps a bit longer for the handles. I filled up the cooler with ice and have it sitting outside (90⁰F day/78⁰F night) for about 18 hours now. So far I am very pleased with the cooler, no ice has melted yet.

  71. Louis

I very seldom review products, however, this ice chest has FAR exceeded our hopes and expectations!!! When we put ice in it on a hot day, it’s difficult to open because the seal is so tight. It holds ice every bit as well as any Rtic or Yeti, and has proven to keep our things plenty cold for long periods of time with little ice. We are so thankful we didn’t spend the money for an Rtic or Yeti!

  72. Wayne

All things considered I’m very happy purchasing this product.. Traveling the country moving horses, needed a ‘cooler’ to replace my aging Coleman. As I’m into organic food rather than restaurant fare, needed a larger cooler so as to take larger quantities with me for longer durations without spoilage. It’s larger size permits that. This cooler is more than a cooler – it’s an ice chest,

Recently I took a three day trip using only 2 – 7 pound bags of ice. At end of trip still had some ice in bags. Also discovered food kept longer than in my Coleman. One also immediately becomes aware of how sturdy it is when standing, sitting or storing gear on it. The hermitical seal around inside of cooler’s top works great. One caveat is that if you close the lid at higher altitude you may be challenged opening it at lower ones because of the vacuum created, which is also great for food storage Like the fact the cooler can be locked shut with paddalock and sturdy bottle opener, great for that purpose.

Con: The food basket is a little small but Walmart has dish racks that fit perfectly along side the one that comes with the cooler. I would definitely buy another one and recommend to friends and family.

  73. Brandon

Last year while preparing for a seven day camping trip I bought a Colman 70qt extreme cooker. Very disappointing, having to keep the cooler out side of the camper many a bags of ice was bought. This year while preparing for the same trip I bought a 73qt Ozark trail. After filling the cooler with chilled beverages I added what I could of bagged ice. Happy happy no more ice was added the full seven day trip. I had one more use for my Ozark trail where I used block ice, The block ice was chipped when put into the cooler and when opening the cooler the next day the ice had frozen together . love this cooler

  74. Olivia

Purchased the 73 Qt cooler in western Alabama before returning to Miami after Hurricane Irma. Loaded it with ice and put it on a trailer along with 2 RTIC coolers also packed with ice. Each cooler had a small block of dry ice as well. Took a day and a half to get back home with the sun beating down on the coolers. Four days later back in Miami without power, the Ozark is holding the ice better than the RTICs. No question this is a great cooler.

  75. Marilyn

Haven’t used yet but reviews demonstrations say its comparable to a much more expensive Yeti at half the price. If you will use it sparingly like me will probably last a lifetime but if you are serious outdoorsman I can for see small defects happening.

  76. Willie

This cooler is well made. The one piece design makes is strong and durable. The rubber closures and gasket give a good seal. This cooler is heavy when empty due to it’s construction, but it is easy to carry with the quality handles. It also has a 5 year warranty. We are very happy with the purchase and recommended that you purchase this cooler if you can find one available.

  77. Olivia

I’ve had my Ozark Cooler for years! Not only has it been great a cooler, but the company is awesome. One of the rubber pieces that holds the cooler shut broke, so I called Ozark and they sent my two new ones no questions asked. Company’s like this are hard to come by!

  78. Teresa

Have not used ut yet, but reviews look awsome.

  79. Amy

Nice price and built like a deep freeze

  80. Joshua

This has been exactly what I expected. It holds ice for days.

  81. Jean

It is a great cooler for the price.

  82. George

This cooler is everything I expected. It is well built and holds ice forever. The handles are comfortable even when the ice chest is full. The drain plug design allows for easy draining. The bottle opener even comes in handy.

  83. Frank

Love this cooler. Absolute beast and works just as good as yeti. Wish inwould have gone for the 54 qt because of weight but the product is solid and great value

  84. Linda

Seriously the best ice chest ever. We over land. So that means we’re on trails and back roads for days… we take extra fuel because we don’t travel where there are really any stops. This ice chest kept our food frozen for 5 days. The ice stayed too. We only added one bag of ice the entire trip. On top of that our overland truck doesn’t have AC, so it was in the heat just like we were. 5 DAYS FOOD STILL FROZEN. I will never buy a different brand cooler. I was even a little annoyed I had to get the bacon package to thaw over the fire so I could hurry up and cook breakfast on day 4! Also, the latches and seal seem way more durable compared to some other coolers that we’ve owned.

  85. Carol

    Love this cooler.WORTH THE MONEY

  86. Nancy

Love this cooler. Holds ice for about 4 days for me. Might do better down the road.

  87. Christian

Awesome cooler, does well at keeping items cold and ice stays solid for an extended time.

  88. Charles

    Better than i expected

  89. Edward

Well its big heavy and tuff, I can’t think of anything not to like

  90. Adam

O zark is a great cooler ! Better than a yeti without the high cost and weighs less.

  91. Nancy

Keeps ice many times longer than cheap coolers, and cost many times less than the big names like yeti, pelican, engel.
If you see one buy it.

  92. Jose

I Love this cooler. We used it during Hurricane Flo and we had ice for 7 days. We did not loose any food. We take it on camping trips for 3-4 days and it is Amazing.

  93. Larry

Works like a charm. Follow the directions and precool the cooler and ice lasted for me for about 9 days stored inside in the HVAC ranging between 76 and 72 degrees. This was in preparation of a Hurricane that thankfully missed us.
